Volunteer Programme

Introduction

Our mission is to provide a unique opportunity for volunteers to experience Nepali family life and culture and share in contributing to the English language and life skills of the children at the Disabled Rehabilitation Center.

The friendships and memories of your volunteer service in Nepal, will last for a lifetime. DRC – A garden where discarded buds blossom, is the first established Care House in Nepal for disabled and disadvantaged children, established and staffed by a majority of disabled adults, with the support of the local community.

The DRC Care House is home to 55 children from many regions of Nepal and 9 staffs. Although the living conditions are   cramped, love and enthusiasm abound and there is a family atmosphere based on respect, cooperation and mutual support, focused on ability, not disability

DRC warmly welcomes volunteers from around the world no formal educational qualifications are required, however a fluency in the English language is essential

Duration:

The volunteer term is at least one month and requires a minimum age of 18 years.

Fees:

Due to law Volunteers are not allowed to sleep at DRC. We can mange for you to stay in a friendly home stay family close by. There you will experience the Nepali lifestyle. About the details we will inform you by email.

There are no special fees charged for the volunteering. However we will provide you the following:

* pick up from the airport
* basic Nepali language training
* cultural sightseeing (on your own cost)
* cultural awareness tuition in the first week
* lunch at DRC

Programme:

* Joining in the day care activities as one of the family
* Conversational English with the children
* Helping the children getting ready for school and with their homework assignments
* Organize some program for the kids on Saturday and holidays
* Assisting Office Staff with English Language projects
* Sharing general housework e.g.cleaning, washing clothes etc
* Conducting Conversational English groups at one of the local schools.
