The Disabled Rehabilitation Centre Nepal provides residential facilities in a familiar environment for 55 children at a care house in Gokarna Kathmandu. DRC focuses on providing the children with health and the best available educational opportunities.
Education
All of the kids of DRC are attending school. Most of them are in private schools and a few are going to a government school for special needs. In Nepal school fees have to be paid for all children attending school. The children will stay in DRC until they passed grade 10. But also after DRC is staying in contact with the kids to find an university or another solution for the future.
We are making sure that every child is healthy. If there is any need of treatment DRC will afford it.
From 6 to 8 a.m. every morning a Therapist is coming and doing treatment to the kids. The flexion and strengthening of the muscles is giving a big improvement for the kids.
On Saturday the kids are having their day off. So on this day DRC is providing them different activities. Often we are playing games, do some drawing or dancing at DRC. But sometimes we can take them out. There is a nice place in the forest where the kids can run around and play ball or we make specific program for girls or boys. Their favorite activity is swimming. There the kids don’t feel their disability anymore and are playing freely.
There are 10 sleeping rooms at DRC. Downstairs the rooms are wheelchair accessible so as the kitchen and the bathroom. There is also the office, one computer room with 6 computers, a homework place, a kitchen with space for 30 people and a medical/physio room. Upstairs are 15 sewing machines for the sewing project.
